V Star 250 Oil Change Walk Through

Changing the oil in any vehicle is important. Keeping your oil is good condition will have your motorcycle running smoothly with less maintenance problems down the line.

Here is a short video on how to change your motor oil:

Below are the step by step instructions as well as the tools you’ll need to get the job done without any headaches.

Tools needed for an oil change:

This list includes the motor oil and filter, which we will be replacing.

  • Yamaha Recommended Motor Oil (10W-40)
  • Oil Filter: K&N 145
  • 17 mm socket (½ inch bit)
  • Socket extension (½ inch bit)
  • Socket wrench (½ bit)
  • Pan
  • Used oil container
  • Shop towels
  • JIS Phillips head screwdriver

You can use whatever sized bit on the socket you have, you’ll just need to be consistent so everything fits together.

Make sure the motor oil you get is motorcycle specific, I have always used Yamalube 10W-40. Amazon sells it by the gallon, which is enough for 3 oil changes.

    1. Ask a friend to help
  15. Check the oil level in the circle window on the right side of the bike near the foot peg
  16. Repeat steps 12-15 until the oil level is between the two line markers
